The Roe Deer. For fine Roe deer stalking / hunting opportunities Ashgrove Wildlife offer superb locations in East Anglia; medal quality heads are taken every year from our various estates. The Roe deer (Capreolus Capreolus) is the only other indigenous deer within our islands (excluding Eire). The Roe is a shy and retiring beast for most of the year, whose delicate features give rise to a mistaken belief of its gentility. However during the rut this species is capable of exhibiting the most aggressive onslaughts against its fellow rivals. It is also notable for being responsible for more human fatalities than any other species of deer in the British Isles. For this reason it is considered to be an unsuitable subject for captivity. As with the fallow, stalking the roe over woodland and open ground, is highly demanding and exciting; their hearing and scenting capabilities are also outstanding.
