The Red Deer. Red deer (Cervus Elaphus) occur throughout Europe, parts of Asia and into North Africa, whilst their much larger cousins, the Wapiti (Cervus Canadensis) extend their range beyond Asia into North America. As a result the red deer has twenty close relatives all regarded as sub species of Cervus Elaphus. The red deer is the largest species of indigenous deer within the British Isles. It is a true woodland animal and displays an air of regal beauty. In falling light or mist the roar of the mighty stag during the rut projects a vibrant lift to the otherwise silent woodland. The ultimate challenge for any hunter or stalker.
